Djembe Course  - All levels

In this course, you will learn to play traditional djembe rhythms from Guinea. As an introduction, we will sing the rhythms in order to gain an instinctual feel for the cadence. From here, the rhythms will actually be played on the djembe. In addition to traditional rhythms, we will work with rhythms which I will spontaneously create in order for you to adapt to the cadence and, in turn, increase your knowledge. Eventually, I will evaluate your individual levels and suggest solo phrases which will be a pleasant challenge for each student.

Children’s Djembe Course

In this course, children will learn age-appropriate rhythms on the djembe. I will use body percussion as an introduction to rhythm. The folk traditions of many countries include the use of body percussion as it allows students to physically grasp the rhythm. From there, we will sing a rhythm before we will actually play it on the djembe. In addition to the djembe, and to maintain concentration levels, we will work with children’s songs from around the world.
